The Children’s Catechumenate is also known as the RCIA for children. The process is designed to meet the needs of those young people who are of age to receive First Communion but have not yet been baptized or are baptized but uncatechized (have not had any formal instruction in the Catholic Church).
The child must be enrolled in the formal Christian formation program and attending sessions on a regular basis. The Children’s Catechumenate prepares the children for full initiation (reception of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil Celebration.
Reception of the initiation sacraments takes place when there is sufficient readiness.
